Parenting can be the most challenging job in the world. Your adorable 5 year old goes from worshiping the path you walk on to a rebel with a sole purpose of driving you up the wall. The frustration that comes from knowing there is nothing you can do to contain the situation pushes you to take extreme steps. Teenagers need acceptance more than dominance. Parents should understand that their teenage child is growing up, and maybe don’t see eye-to-eye with you on everything anymore.

If your regular style of parenting is falling flat, here are four unique activities to reconnect with your teenage kids.

  1. Camp out: Take them to a place which has no connectivity. Initially you’ll meet resistance but once your child realizes that he cannot go online and check snap chat stories, he is forced to spend time with you. Talk to your child like you would to a friend. Hold the judgment because as a parent you face a more tolerant society than teenagers. Spend your time indulging in fun activities. You can start off by reminiscing your own stories or rebellion growing up. Give them a chance to realize that you went through the same phase and probably did the same things they’re doing.
  1. Play a game: Sports is a fun way of reconnecting with your teenager. Pay catch if nothing else. Let your son beat you. This will boost his confidence. Play a sport of their choice, letting them make decision is also a great way to boost their confidence, and show them that you respect their opinions and decisions.
  1. Take your son/daughter on a date: Forgo your boy’s night out and take your teenager out instead. Make an effort to book the best table and dress up. If not to a restaurant, take them to watch their favorite band perform. It may seem like noise to you but it’ll make your kid happy, and they’ll be raving to their friends how cool you are.
  2. Book an escape room experience: Being locked in a room with your teen for an hour may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of something you may enjoy.  An escape experience is a great mind challenge, teens enjoy the game aspect of it, and you will enjoy the challenge. Still can’t convince them to spend an hour with you, invite them to bring a friend along. We can accommodate up to 8 players in one game. This is a great bonding experience, and after just one hour, you can promise your teen their phone back.

No one gets a second chance at being a parent. Do it right and ensure that your children have the best of times.
